The Implementation
Site ARCHITECTURE: Services, Resources, About & NAvigation
Previously, the page architecture of MR Dental’s site was not optimized due to incorrect subcategorization and blog post permalinks that were not user-friendly.
To achieve this, we logically organized the subcategory pages and grouped them under their respective parent pages – services, about, and resources. We also updated the navigation to reflect these changes. The permalink structure of the blog was modified to a /blog/%postname% format to greatly enhance the user experience. Additionally, we ensured a seamless browsing experience for our users by 301 redirecting the old URLs to their new counterparts.
Adding the breadcrumb trail
To effectively communicate the site’s structure and facilitate navigation for both search engines and visitors, a breadcrumb trail was integrated below the main menu on the website. The breadcrumb trail provides a clear and easily traceable path for users to navigate through various pages, thus improving the overall user experience and optimizing search engine crawlability.
Fixing the xml sitemap issues &
adding the html sitemap
Elementor template pages, low quality archive pages, and redirecting URLs were removed from the XML sitemap to improve search engine crawling and indexing efficiency.
An HTML sitemap was added to improve user experience by aiding quick navigation. This sitemap contains a list of all the pages and posts on the website, arranged in a logical order, making it simple for users to quickly find the information they need.
Resolving the rest of the audit
- Internal Links Issues – The redirecting URLs were replaced with the final destinations to minimize the number of server requests and streamline the indexing process
- Orphaned Pages – The orphaned were interlinked with other core pages and are also added to the HTML sitemap.
- Blocked Core Content – The robots.txt file and robot meta tag were properly configured to allow search engines to crawl specific URLs and index them.
